EXPOSE AND BOND/IMPACTED CANINE TOOTH SURGERY
An expose and bond is a surgical procedure used to help bring the impacted teeth into the dental arch. During this procedure, a small bony window is surgically made to access the impacted tooth. A fixture (usually a gold chain) is carefully luted onto the impacted tooth. The orthodontist or dentist will then use this chain to apply gentle traction in order to pull it into alignment with the rest of the arch.

Usually, an expose and bond is best done during eruption of the teeth during the early to late teens. It becomes much more difficult to perform this procedure as the patient gets older and its success rates tend to decrease. However, there are many instances where expose and bond has worked beyond this age range and will be discussed with you during the consultation visit.
An expose and bond procedure is no more invasive than having impacted teeth surgically extracted. The healing time is about the same. Please see the post-operative instructions to get a better idea of what to expect when undergoing this procedure.
